With Nothing Underneath

With Nothing Underneath (WNU): Menswear Shirts, Recut for Women

Founding and Vision

Pip Durell founded WNU in London in 2017. She worked as a fashion editor and stylist first. Then she chased one idea: the perfect women’s shirt. The brand builds uniforms, not trends. It champions ease, quality, and perennial style.

Design Philosophy

WNU borrows from classic menswear. It sharpens proportions for women. Fabrics lead the story: crisp poplin, airy linen, sturdy Oxford, and soft brushed cotton. Seams stay clean. Buttons feel substantial. Meanwhile, silhouettes run straight, slightly oversized, and effortless to tuck or tail out. Therefore, the shirt becomes a daily anchor.

Famous Pieces

The Boyfriend Shirt defines the look. It drops the shoulder, lengthens the hem, and frames the body without cling. The Classic Shirt trims the volume and sharpens the collar. It suits office hours and dinners alike. The City Shirt narrows the cut further and sits neatly under tailoring. Next, the Linen Shirt breathes through long summers and travels well. Finally, the Denim Shirt adds weight and texture, pairing with tailoring or vintage jeans.

Celebrity Wearers

Editors adopted WNU early. British tastemakers styled it with vintage denim and loafers. Then models, presenters, and on-camera hosts followed. Street style sealed the formula: bare face, sharp shirt, great shoes.

Product Range

Shirts sit at the core. You’ll find poplin, Oxford, linen, and denim across recurring fits. The line extends into shirt dresses and seasonal stripes. Select capsules add co-ords and boxer-style shorts. Colors stay timeless: optic white, sky blue, navy, and banker stripes. Prints appear sparingly and serve the cut.

Cultural Impact

WNU helped mainstream the “borrowed-from-the-boys” shirt as a women’s uniform. The brand pushed oversized shirting beyond weekends. It moved into office hours, travel days, and evenings out. Meanwhile, styling stayed minimal: half-tuck, rolled sleeves, layered gold, done. Consequently, the white and blue stripe shirt regained icon status—clean, modern, and unfussy.
